Bronchiectasis is a disease that causes the airways to become flabby and damaged. Bronchiectasis may be acquired or congenital. An infection or other illness that damages the airway walls or stops the airways from clearing mucus causes this syndrome. When mucus isn't evacuated, it builds up and provides an ideal habitat for germs to thrive. Recurrent and dangerous lung infections result. Bronchiectasis may damage only one portion of one lung or many sections of both.
Bronchitis may progress to major health concerns such respiratory failure, heart failure, and atelectasis.
