What is a Breast lump? | Breast Cancer Surgeon in Delhi | Dr. Rajinder Kaur Saggu

A breast lump is a localized swelling, protuberance, bulge, or lump in the breast that feels different from the surrounding breast tissue or the breast tissue in the same area of the other breast.

Breast lumps may be caused by a variety of factors, including:

Breast tissue changes (fibrocystic changes): Tiny, fluid-filled sacs and fibrous (rubbery) tissue have the appearance of bumps.

Breast cysts: These are fluid-filled sacs that develop when fluid becomes blocked in the milk ducts. Premenopausal women are prone to cysts.

Fibroadenomas: The most frequent benign (noncancerous) breast tumor in young women (20s and 30s). Fibroadenomas are more frequent in women throughout their reproductive years.

Breast infection: A lump may be caused by an infection in the breast tissue.

Breast cancer: A lump is caused by a tumor forming in the breast tissue.

Surgery is usually performed if a mass is determined to be cancer. The doctor will explain the best surgical alternatives to you and give you the knowledge you need to make a decision.

You may need to undergo radiation therapy, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, or hormone therapy after surgery.
