What exactly is HRCT CHEST – Plain?

Plain HRCT (High-Resolution Computed Tomography) refers to a CT scan that produces a more exact cross-section image of the lungs than a standard chest CT. An HRCT scan of the chest is an imaging process that employs narrow X-ray beams to provide a high-resolution picture of the lung structure. This test is used to evaluate lung function, identify abnormal growth in the lungs, and discover obstructions to airflow through the lungs.

Before the test, the patient is asked to remove any jewelry and accessories from the chest region that might interfere with the scan. Pregnant women should notify their doctor since the radiation may harm the fetus. The scan takes only a few seconds, but the pre-preparation will take 5-15 minutes.
